Unity In Action
Decision making. As leaders, this is one of the most difficult actions we are tasked with daily. Every choice we make goes beyond the walls of a meeting room. Decisions shape cultures, express values, and ultimately define the progression of our leadership journey.
Leadership is not about having power over others or holding a high position, it is about providing a course that embodies the diversity of perspectives within our teams. Evaluating circumstances from a lens of inclusive leadership is vital as organizations and teams continue to change and evolve. There are a variety of ways to aid in making decisions as leaders, but here are three initial suggestions for you to consider moving forward.
Anticipate the outcome: Think beyond the initial decision and the impact this will have on the organization or team as a whole. If you already have decision-making standards in place, evaluate how the decision aligns with the organization and what long-term impact this decision will have.
Utilize the data: At times, making decisions is as simple as being confident in the facts that are in front of you. This can help mitigate biases and ensure that some decisions are grounded in objective information
Seek input from other leaders: There are most likely others on your leadership team who have expertise on the matter you are attempting to solve. Consulting others and encouraging collaboration is a useful tool. Some of my greatest leadership lessons have come from others when they have challenged me or encouraged me to look at something from a different point of view.
By including these actions moving forward, leaders can continue the path of encouraging a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Sending my best always,
