Quiet Confidence Is Still Confidence

Where are all my quiet people at? This edition may be for you if:
· You question if your quieter approach to leadership is enough.
· You’ve ever felt overlooked because you aren’t the loudest in the room.
· You find yourself shrinking back because you’re unsure where you fit in leadership roles.
· You’re tired of performing confidence, and you’re ready to build it from within.
I think there’s a misconception that you need a larger-than-life personality to be considered confident, or worthy of a leadership title. Have you ever felt like you had to act bigger or put on a full-blown performance just to be taken seriously?
There are some people that naturally command attention and can easily sway a room, I’m sure you’ve met them! We live in a culture that often equates dominating rooms with being the smartest voice at the table.
But here’s the truth:
Confidence doesn’t have to show out. Some of the most powerful leaders I’ve been around aren’t the loudest. In fact, most of them…
Don’t seek the spotlight.
Focus on being present, not performative.
They are listeners, not interrupters.
It’s qualities like these that make them intelligent, confident, and help those around them want to invest more into the company culture.
So, let’s get into it. You’re quiet, possibly more introverted and you need a little bit of assistance of what this looks like in real time. How would I know? I’m naturally an introvert that is now more on the ambivert spectrum, and here are some keys I’ve had to realize for myself.
Know Who You Are
So much of leadership is being able to lead yourself first. Know your values, know what challenges you, what your goals are, and what you believe. When you understand yourself more, you’ll be a better decision maker, and this will assist in building your personal confidence.
Stay In Alignment
To lead, you don’t have to become more like anyone else, you just have to be more like you. Confidence isn’t about performance, it’s about presence. Lead from a place of authenticity that feels right and reflects who you are at your core.
Know Your Impact
What makes you unique? You may be a great listener, or make others feel heard. Quite possibly, you’re a person who does a great job of leading by example and showing others what hard work looks like. Whatever it is, know your impact. Have a great understanding at what you’re best at and use that as a superpower. This way, you aren’t focused on what makes others successful, you have an appreciation of what makes you impactful.
Keep leading from within, and as always, I am wishing you the best.
