Embracing Change
I am a creature of habit so it can take me some time to process change.
Some people are excited for change, while it can be terrifying for others. We live in a world obsessed with recognition and praise. I can’t help but think for a lot of people, especially those in leadership positions, these questions often cross their mind when it comes to change:
If I change, will I still be celebrated? Better yet, will I be known?
Most of us want to be noticed and acknowledged, myself included. However, the idea of change can’t derail us from our future because often it’s not only necessary but needed.
So, here’s the paradox of change: While people often fear it, change is the very thing that allows progress, and sustainability.
If you’re still on the fence about why change is important, here’s a few things to think about from a leadership and growth perspective:
Change opens new opportunities-
Sometimes change is our choice, and other times we’re forced to make changes. Either way, our perspective plays a huge role with how we embrace change. There are new doors to be opened and new paths to explore; when the world is changing around you keep an open mind and find ways to stretch beyond what you even thought was possible.
Change prevents complacency-
It’s important for us not to limit our potential. Staying the same feels safe, but it can also limit the possibilities that are intended for us. What feels comfortable today can quickly become outdated tomorrow. Change is a disrupter. It forces us out of our comfort zones and keeps us from settling for the status quo.
Change sparks innovation-
Never be afraid to ask, “What if we tried something new?” It’s exciting to explore new ideas, creativity, and fresh perspectives. The world is evolving, being a part of a culture that embraces change and new opportunities is an environment that will thrive.
The next time you’re faced with change, understand that true security comes not from resisting change, but embracing it.
Has there been something that you want to improve, but that you’ve been afraid to change?
As always, I’m wishing you the best.
